Route 40 runs right through the middle of Speigletown — past the firehouse, homes, and businesses. It’s also a state highway, which means real changes usually require the New York State Department of Transportation, often with the Town of Schaghticoke’s backing.
Individually, a complaint about speeding or a bad crossing is easy to file away. Together, documented over time, the same concerns are much harder to ignore.
What we’re collecting
- Specific locations where speeding or near-misses happen
- Intersections and crossings that feel unsafe on foot
- Sightlines, shoulders, lighting, and drainage problems
- Times of day when it’s worst
How to weigh in
Submit your observation with as much detail as you can (where, when, what happened). We’ll compile them and, if there’s enough, bring a summary to a Town Board meeting and the appropriate state contacts.
This is exactly the kind of thing a community does better together than alone.
